2nd week of April 2007

Greenhouse Flats

The unseasonable cold weather has forced us to our work indoors again. A little more planning, organizing and reading are probably helpful but we are itching to be outdoors again. It was sad to see the daffodils and forsythia suffer from the cold and I even had to cover my cold hardy seedlings in the greenhouse to avoid them getting nipped. A couple flats of tomatoes have taken refuge in our living room too. But when the sun shines, the temperature in the greenhouse easily soars to 80+ and it is a pleasure to work out there. As soon as the weather looks safe again, I'll try planting some lettuce seedlings outdoors. Many of our meals this week have included abundant chives and garlic chives sprinkled over everything.

Taming of the lamb Taming of the lamb 2Another batch of triplet lambs (Penny, Lenny and Benny) arrived yesterday. This mama ewe is not quite as motherly so we've had to keep a closer watch on the lambs and one of them needed help latching on to nurse. All the lambs are enjoying basking under the heat lamp which we added after losing one of last weeks twins during a cold night. Our kids are enjoying cuddling baby lambs. It will be nice to see them all out frolicking in the pasture when them temperatures rise again.
