The 1st annual Harvest Festival hosted by Pioneer farm around the corner was a big success on a beautiful but crisp Saturday. The Geiser gals put a lot of sweat equity into transforming the barn into such a beautiful place for vendors, seminars and more.
I enjoyed being able to gather with other local artisans (food, art, fiber, healing arts, and more) to display our wares and visit with folks. There are some neat budding cottage industries in our area and it seems the key to making them successful is to work together with others. Hopefully more cooperative efforts will come in the future at Pioneer Farm. One of the fun events of the day was the Heirloom tomato taste testing. I just heard from a mom whose 4 year old couldn't get enough of the Persimmon tomato samples asking if I had any seeds for that variety. That is our family's current favorite tomato also.
Driving in the lane after the Harvest Festival we spotted a calf that was born while we were away.
Our daughter's Jersey, Iris, had a bull calf named Buddy. Cute little guy but he has enjoyed escaping the fences more than we would like. Last night involved a search for him in the dark that found him lying on the barn bank and this morning we hunted for over an hour till we discovered him nestled under the grape arbor. Tonight Olin wisely locked him in a pen in the barn. Our time needs to be more wisely used for harvesting grapes, planting bok choy, dehydrating stevia, making sauerkraut and such tasks.
